PM Introduces New Ombudsman of Environmental Protection


Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia, introduced the Ombudsman of the newly-created 'Department of Environmental Protection,' David Morrison, on Thursday, May 2.

The new Ombudsman's department will be working under the scope and with the support of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

“I initiated the founding of this important institute, which is an Ombudsman of Environmental Protection,” said the PM. “It will serve as an essential instrument for effective communication with our society, so that the government can respond proactively to solving environmental issues.”

Between 2008 and 2016, David Morrison worked as Executive Director of the CNF, the Caucasian Nature Fund which works to protect the environment.

As Morrison noted, the government must take environmental issues more seriously and work on solving its many problems.
