Interior Ministry: By-Elections Will Be ‘Free, Democratic, and Safe’

The Georgian Interior Ministry has promised that the by-elections to be held in May 2019 will take place in a “free, democratic and safe environment.”

On May 19, municipal by-elections will take place to decide on five municipal mayors and eight city council members.

Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia and Tamar Zhvania, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, signed a memorandum of understanding pledging to ensure that the by-elections will be conducted peacefully.

The voting on May 19 will take place at 31 polling stations where 43,868 voters are registered.
