President Salome Zurabishvili Pays First Official Visit to Latvia

The President of Georgia Salome Zurabichvili is visiting Latvia for the first time.

She arrived in Riga on 14 May and will stay until May 16. Today, the President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis received Zurabishvili at Riga Castle. During her visit, she will also meet with Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins and Parliamentary Speaker Inara Muniece.

“Latvia has always been and will be Georgia’s supporter and friend on its way to the European Union and NATO,” said Vejonis in an official statement. “We also reiterate Latvia’s constant support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Zurabishvili will also participate in a solemn flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument in Riga, and attend an official dinner.

The visit underlines the close ties between Latvia and Georgia in economics, trade, education, culture, tourism, and other areas.

Following her time in Latvia, Zurabishvili will meet with officials in Estonia.
