Salome Zurabishvili Meets Her Ukrainian Counterpart
On May 20, the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili travelled to Ukraine to attend the official inauguration ceremony of Volodymyr Zelensky, the newly elected Head of the country. The two Presidents held an official meeting on the same day, the Administration of the President of Ukraine reports.
At the meeting, Zurabishvili congratulated Zelensky on his recent victory and wished him success in the post of the President of Ukraine.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government spoke about why he had decided to engage in politics and pointed out the major priorities.
"Why did our team go into politics? The number one challenge for us is to reach a ceasefire in the East, where our people die every day," said Zelensky.
The President of Ukraine also focused on the upcoming plans regarding maintaining the foreign policy course, targeted at the restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the development of the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. In addition, Zelensky noted that eradicating the problem of corruption is of paramount importance and named the Georgian experience as exemplary in this respect.
At the meeting, the parties also had a conversation concerning the further development of relations between Georgia and Ukraine and expressed confidence about the enhancement of strategic collaboration.
President Zurabishvili accentuated the significance of the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament.
“We must unite Ukraine's and Georgia's positions with regards to the course towards European integration and NATO membership,” stated the Georgian President.
At the end of the meeting, Zurabishvili invited her counterpart to Georgia for an official visit.
