Classic Keto and Kote Opera in Tbilisi

On Friday and Sunday, the famous “Keto and Kote” opera by renown Georgian Composer, Victor Dolidze, will be performed in Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre. It has been more than a century since this opera is one of Georgians’ favourite one. Indeed, this opera in three acts received a fantastic reception during its premiere in 1919. Is it considered the first comic Georgian opera and for good reason.

Victor Dolidze was born in 1890. In 1910 he won the first prize at a local mandolin contest. He composed several operas of which “Keto and Kote” is the most famous.

This year, the opera it will feature soloists, chorus and orchestra of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre and National Ballet Company Sukhishvilebi. The rest of the team includes the conductor, Revaz Takidze, the Director Ioane (Vano) Khutsishvili, the Set, Costume and Lighting Designer, Georgi Alexi-Meskhishvili, and the Chief Choreographer, Iliko Sukhishvili.
