General Secretary: Lado Kakhadze Leads By-elections With 62.5% of Votes

According to Kakha Kaladze, the General Secretary of the ruling party Georgian Dream, Georgian Dream party candidate - # 41 Vladimer Kakhadze leads by-elections held in Mtatsminda District of Tbilisi with 62.5% of votes.

As he stated, according to the information received from the polls, 75% of ballot papers are already counted and the majority of voters support Georgian Dream Party Candidate Vladimer Kakhadze. 

The process of counting votes is still underway, however, the General Secretary of the ruling party already congratulated Kakhadze on his success in by-elections.

As for Shalva Shavgulidze, the candidate of the European Georgia-Free Democrats, Kaladze said that he received 37.5% of votes.

Two candidates - the opposition candidate, # 13 Shalva Shavgulidze and the ruling Georgian Dream party candidate - # 41 Vladimer Kakhadze were facing each other in the second round of the elections.

The second round of elections was necessary as none of the candidates managed to overcome the 50 percent threshold during the first round held on May 19.
