Cabinet of Shota Rustaveli Opens in Goethe University Frankfurt
A cabinet named after the prominent 12th Century Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli has been opened in Goethe University in Frankfurt. The opening of Rustaveli's Cabinet will significantly strengthen the field of Kartvelian studies at Frankfurt University.
Georgian Consul Levan Diasamidze, University Vice President and Professor Rolf Van Dyke, Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation Prof. Zviad Gabisonia, Prof. Jost Gippert and Prof. Manana Tandashvili held the opening ceremony.
The Head of the Caucasian Studies department, Professor Manana Tandashvili, started collecting foreign translations of Shota Rustaveli's epic poem ‘A Knight in the Panther’s Skin’ two years ago. Today, a total of 50 translations are registered in the library on Kartvelian Studies.
Great Georgian medieval author Shota Rustaveli is widely known for his masterpiece - the Knight in the Panther's Skin, which represents an anthem of true love, friendship, and courage. The poem has been translated into many languages. It was first printed in 1712 in the Georgian capital Tbilisi.
