Police Use Tear Gas on Protesters
Riot police have used tear gas to disperse protesters who refused to leave the area around the Parliament building, despite warnings from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A number of demonstrators also tried to take equipment from the police.
Ambulances are on-hand to help those suffering the effects of the gas.
Earlier in the night, both protesters and police were injured during clashes at the gates of the building as protesters tried to storm the building, demanding the resignation of the Chairman of Parliament for his allowing the Russian MP Sergey Gavrilov to address the audience of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy from his Chair. Facing civil unrest, the Assembly was first moved to another building, then cancelled altogether as demonstrators went to the hotel where the Russian delegation were staying and blockaded the exits. The Russian delegation were escorted out with armed police and has since left the country.
