Former President, Giorgi Margvelashvili Comments on the Protest
Earlier today, Giorgi Margvelashvili, the 4th and former President of Georgia, arrived at the entrance of Parliament.
According to Margvelashvili, the escalated events were a foreseen Russian-planted provocation.
He addressed the Government and asked them to avoid violence, making an announcement at the Memorial of April 9 – one of the most important dates in the history of Georgia. Margvelashvili addressed the police to never act out violently against youth again.
“The Russians will never have us take in and accept their reality. A Russian flag will never replace the Georgian flag on top of this [parliament] building. I want to address my former party members – avoid violence. Do not seek to track down young, Georgian patriots in the street. Avoid using weapons that cause hospitalization and injuries of hundreds,” said Margvelashvili.
