Joint Statement on Tbilisi Pride Decision to Postpone “March of Dignity”

The UN in Georgia published a statement emphasizing their position on postponing of "March of Dignity." It reads that while the organization believes that participating in this sort of peaceful demonstrations is an expression of every person’s fundamental human right to freedom of expression and assembly, considering the real concerns about safety of the current context the UN in Georgia welcomes the decision of the organizers to postpone the March. 

The publication also reiterated the main points of the UN's statement of May 17 2019, concerning the need of ending discrimination of LGBTQ+ community in Georgia and the ways of reinforcing that goal. As the announcement reads, " respect for diversity yields a stronger democracy and a more resilient society."

The statement is signed by The UN in Georgia, the European Union in Georgia, Austria's Embassy in Georgia, France's Embassy in Georgia, Germany's Embassy in Georgia, the Netherlands' Embassy in Georgia, Sweden's Embassy in Georgia, the Embassies of the United Kingdom and the United States of America in Georgia.
