Georgian Cinematographer Becomes Member of American Film Academy

Giorgi Shvelidze, Georgian cinematographer, has been selected as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. However, this is not his first success, as this winter, on February 9, he won the Spotlight Award at the 100^th anniversary of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) for the Georgian feature Namme.

“The organization behind the Oscars has worked to dramatically expand its member roster over the past several years to become more inclusive and globally focused,” reads the article of the Hollywood Reporter.

In 2019, the Academy boasts 842 members from 59 different countries, including world-renowned stars like Lady Gaga and Adele, 50% of whom are female, and 29% people of color.
