President to Russian Authorities: Do Not Respond to Escalation
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili appealed to Russian authorities not to respond to the escalation at a special briefing today.
"I address the Russian authorities: do not respond to the escalation. It would be a paradox if the neighboring country responded to the radical forces, thus contributing to their destructive goals. It should also be noted that our peaceful policy is the only way to maintain stability in the country and in the region”, she stated.
Zurabishvili also appealed to the Georgian citizens residing in Russia.
“I appeal to our citizens living in Russia: I am your president too and your well-being is very important to us. I know that the government is doing its best in a given situation to help you live in a calm and stable environment”, Zurabishvili said.
At the end of the briefing Salome Zurabishvili addressed foreign citizens residing in Georgia or visiting the country:
“Historically, Georgia has been a symbol of tolerance and we will not allow this tradition to be broken. Even during the hardest times, there has never been even a single incident that would threaten foreign citizens or foreign guests living in our country. And this will continue so," she added.
