Deputy Chair of Parliament Comments on Khazaradze-Japaridze Case

“The investigation began much earlier than Khazaradze’s statement regarding the establishment of any political movement”, the Deputy Chairperson of Parliament Tamar Chugoshvili told journalists today in connection with the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office, according to which the founders of TBC Bank - Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze were charged for legalizing illegal money - 16 754 000 US dollars.

According to Tamar Chugoshvili, the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office is related to collecting the evidence, not the political statements of Mamuka Khazaradze.  

 “It is clear that the opposition will try to see political reasons in this situation. However, the main thing is the evidence found by investigation. This is a case of high public interest. The society watches it and accordingly, the standard and firmness of evidence is important ", the Deputy Chairperson of Parliament stated.

The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia has charged the founders of JSC TBC Bank - Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze.

According to the agency, they are accused of legalizing illegal money - 16 754 000 US dollars.

“Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze are charged for the legalization of 16 754 000 US dollars, as a result of which they received a large amount of income”, reads the statement of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze are summoned to Prosecutor General’s Office today, where the charge will be officially read to them.  According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the Agency will appeal to the court in connection with the measure of restraint. 

The founders of the TBC Bank are expected to arrive at the Prosecutor General's Office today at 5;00 PM.

The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia launched an investigation into the legalization of illicit income by the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TBC Bank on 2 August 2018.
