European Georgia Party Protests Changes in Government by Whistling

The autumn session of the Parliament was opened by the protest of the members of the European Georgia party, who started whistling to protest the changes in the cabinet of ministers.

In response, the Chairman of Parliament, Archil Talakvadze, forced them to leave the session hall.

Before making the decision, the Speaker of Parliament warned the MPs and urged them to keep order at the Plenary Session.

In addition to the members of the "European Georgia", members of the "National Movement" also left the session hall.

One of the first issues to be discussed at the autumn session will be the approval of the new PM and government.

The Cabinet of Ministers is to see changes in the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Defense.

Bidzina Ivanishvili, Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, presented Giorgi Gakharia as a candidate for the post of the Prime Minister of Georgia at a special briefing held after the sitting of the political council and parliamentary majority earlier today.

Giorgi Gakharia has been serving as the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, as well as the Minister of Internal Affairs since November 13, 2017.

Vakhtang Gomelauri, the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, will be appointed the Minister of Internal Affairs, while Irakli Gharibashvili, who served as the Internal Affairs Minister in 2012-2013 and as the Prime Minister in 2013-2015, will become the new Minister of Defense.

The former Minister of Defense, Levan Izoria, will become the Head of the National Security Council.
