Clashes on the Border of Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan

Monday, September 16 was an intense day for both Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. A shoot-out on the border of the two countries at the disputed territory resulted in the death of three Tajikis and one Kyrgyz border guards.

Dozens were injured in the Ferghana Valley unrest which started around 19:30 local time on Monday evening, as it has been reported. Both sides are putting blames on each other for making the first violent attempt.

The Tajik and Kyrgyz border agencies have reported that the situation in the contested frontier has been stabilized as of September 17. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries are forming negotiations, and the Kyrgyz Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev has traveled to the conflicted region.
The revealed reason for the shooting was a dispute over construction at a non-demarcated section of the Kyrgyz-Tajikistan border.

Historically, the intensity on the border of the two countries has not ceased since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
