Juvenile Mother Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Killing a Toddler
A juvenile mother accused of killing a 7-month-old toddler has been sentenced to six years in prison.
The court ruling was announced by the judge of Gori District Court Levan Darbaidze today.
The father and other relatives of the murdered toddler attended the court trial. They disagree with the court's decision, saying that they will appeal it to the Court of Appeal. In addition, they do not exclude to protest such a small sentence for one accused of killing own child in front of the Parliament of Georgia.
Relatives of the accused did not attend the trial.
Law enforcers detained a 16-year-old mother on charges of killing her own child on May 21 in the village of Agaiani, Kaspi Municipality.
The investigation established that she smothered the toddler in bed at night and fled from home. The Ministry of Internal Affairs says that the accused pleads guilty. Allegedly, the reason behind the murder was the revenge on her husband and other family members.
