PM Gakharia on the Meeting of Georgian and Russian FMs
PM Gakharia has commented on the meeting between Sergey Lavrov and Davit Zalkaliani that was held yesterday, on September 26 in New York City. When discussing the matter with journalists, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that the meeting will encourage problem-solving process between Georgia and Russia.
“I am hopeful that this meeting, held in the headquarters of the General Assembly, will stimulate solving the many complex problems between Russia and Georgia. Evidently, the only solution here is the international rules, and, of course, tight cooperation with our partners,” announced the Prime Minister.
Gakharia also connected today’s date to the Georgian-Russian issue, stating that exactly from the September 27 perspective, it should be in our understanding that war is not a solution.
“[Fastening the problem-solving process] That was the spirit of the meeting and it was in full synchronization with our international partners. It is today, exactly from the September 27 viewpoint that we should understand that the solution lies in cold, pragmatic politics and not in war. From that platform we shall address everyone, to form the basis for our country’s unity and its democratic development,” said PM Gakharia.
The referred meeting between Russian and Georgian FMs, Sergey Lavrov and Davit Zalkaliani was held in New York City, within the frames of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly. Yesterday’s meeting of Georgian and Russian FMs was initiated and organized by Switzerland.
