Kakha Kaladze on the Fall of Sokhumi
26 years ago today, Georgia lost control over the capital of Georgian region Abkhazia, Sokhumi. The region has since been occupied by Russia. Kakha Kaladze has published a post on his Facebook page regarding the tragic historical date for Georgia.
“26 years ago, on September 27, 1993, the city of Sokhumi fell. This war took the lives of numerous people and left 300 000 without a home, forcing them to flee.
On the one hand, we have terrifying statistics and on the other hand, we have even worse, more tragic reality: Sokhumi that we have lost, burnt houses, ruined families, and children with stolen childhood, young widows, total disappointment and desperation…
The tragic event that took place 26 years ago changed the course of our country and made us see that development and peace reside in the same place. This is the place where people live in their homes, where the coast is white and the sea is calm…
Hail and honor to all of our heroes!
We have to get Abkhazia back with peace!
#WeWillGetEachOtherBack” writes the Tbilisi Mayor in his Facebook post.
