Eka Beselia: Thank You
Eka Beselia published a Facebook Post, thanking everyone for her support and explaining how much solidarity helps her get through everything. Her post also encourages to “not fear when you are right”.
“Thanks to everyone for showing your solidarity and support!
During these times, it is exactly this support and bravery of each person that provides strength and motivation we need to stop violence and injustice!
Never fear anything when you are right!” reads the Facebook post of the former member of the Georgian Dream Party.
During the Sitting of the Legal Issues Committee at the Parliament of Georgia on September 26, Beselia and Vano Zardiashvili had an intense conflicting incident. As Zardiashvili remarked her morality, saying that “his and Beselia’s morality is not the same” Beselia slapped him in the face. The female member of the parliament took her colleague’s comments as an offense, referring to the video of her personal life, which was released in January and was taken without her knowledge.
After the incident, Beselia told the press that “there is a line that I will not allow anyone to cross,” as she claimed that she would not apologize for anything. Zardiashvili, on the other hand, denied Beselia’s accusation and said that he never meant to insult her.
Activists showed support for Beselia first via social media yesterday, and today on the morning of September 27, they showed up in front of the Parliament carrying ‘Zardinashvili, #ShameonYou’ signs. Despite their different political views, Elene Khoshtaria, a member of the Movement for Liberty - European Georgia, was one of the supporters of Beselia in front of the parliament.
