Parliament Speaker: Russia Cannot Determine Georgia's Future
“Despite the current challenges in the country, the Russian Federation cannot determine Georgia's future," Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze said in his speech at the meeting with the NATO Deputy Secretary-General and permanent representatives of NATO member states in Batumi, noting that Georgia will definitely achieve territorial integrity through peaceful means.
“Occupation of 20% of our country's territories remains the main challenge for us. This is not a frozen conflict, this is a challenge that still exists, which still continues and includes grave human rights violations in the occupied regions, abductions of our citizens and various threats arising from the occupied territories.
“Despite these challenges, Georgia remains optimistic and confident in the process of creating its future, and remains committed to the obligations we have towards our citizens and partners,” he added.
On October 3-4, Georgia’s coastal city of Batumi is hosting the 5th North Atlantic Council Meeting, which is unprecedented as the Council has never held meetings in a partner nation. The North Atlantic Council (NAC), which is the principal political decision-making body of NATO, is paying a visit to Georgia at the invitation of the local government.
