President Zurabishvili: “#MeToo Not to be Tolerated”
Georgian President, Salome Zurabishvili has published a tweet on her official Twitter Page about the recent scandal concerning Georgian Dream employee accusing his boss, Ilia Jishkariani, MP of the Tbilisi City Assembly of sexual assault.
“#MeToo in #Georgiatoo: a member of #Tbilissicitycouncil subject to investigation for presumed #sexualharassment towards his assistant. Not to be tolerated!” reads the President’s tweet on her Twitter page.
Tamta Todadze, who was Ilia Jishkariani’s assistant, accused her boss of sexual harassment and physical abuse. Todadze claimed that he beat her after she refused to engage in sexual activity with him.
Todadze said in her interview with Mtavari Arkhi, that she called the police around 4 PM when there were many proofs at the crime scene. However, the police only came at 3:00 AM the next morning when the room was already cleaned up.
“If he was not a government official, he would already have been arrested,” Todadze told the media.
Tamta Todadze’s mother, Khatuna Okropiridze, has reported that ever since her daughter made her claims about the MP of the Tbilisi City Assembly’s assault public, she has not felt safe.
After the President’s official comment on the subject, claiming that the act was ‘not to be tolerated’, the MIA reported that the investigation is in progress under the Articles 126 (violence); 138 (sexual assault); and 187 (damage or destruction of property) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
