Trump on Operation Peace Spring: Not Our Border…Not Our Problem

President Donald Trump has said Turkey's invasion in Syria is "not our problem", and described the Kurds as "no angels", reports BBC.

"They have a problem at a border. It's not our border. We shouldn't be losing lives over it. Our soldiers are out of there. Our soldiers are totally safe. They've got to work it out. Maybe they can do it without fighting," Donald Trump said. "We're watching and we're negotiating and we're trying to get Turkey to do the right thing because we'd like to stop wars regardless." - adds Trump.

Donald Trump added a comment that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) – a paramilitary rebel group that fights for Kurdish autonomy in Turkey - "is probably worse at terror and more of a terrorist threat in many ways than the Islamic State.”

The US is facing severe criticism for removing its forces from Syria, which gave Turkey the go-ahead to launch a cross-border offensive against Kurdish-led forces.

These comments are stated right before US Vice President Mike Pence and House Speaker Mike Pompeo travel to Ankara. They will be meeting high-level delegates and probably even Erdogan himself. The discussions will be on Turkish military operation and overall involvement in Northern-Syria.

Washington is calling for a ceasefire in Syria, and if not conceded they are threating Turkey with harsh economic sanctions. Whereas, according to Erdogan the operation will not cease unless the region is cleared of terrorists.
