Brexit Deal Reached between UK and EU
A Brexit agreement has been settled between the UK and EU sides before a meeting of European leaders in Brussels.
"Now is the moment for us to get Brexit done and then together work to build our future partnership," PM Boris Johnson said at the conference. He urged MPs in the House of Commons to "come together to get Brexit done and get this excellent deal over the line".
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said it was a "fair and balanced agreement". Mr. Juncker said he was looking forward to starting work on a new post-Brexit partnership with the UK on 1 November (the day after the UK is due to leave.)
The two sides worked ceaselessly on the legal text of the deal, but it will still need the approval of both the UK and European parliaments.
PM Johnson tweeted - "We've got a great new deal that takes back control." Also, in a letter advocating the deal to European Council President Donald Tusk, Johnson wrote: "It is high time to complete the withdrawal process and move on, as swiftly as possible, to the negotiation on the European Union's future partnership with the United Kingdom."
All three authorities on this matter, Jean Claude Junker, Donald Tusk and Boris Johnson have advised their respective parliaments to back the deal.
