The Immortalization of Gandagana- the Adjarian Folk Dance

The Adjarian dance Gandagana was granted the status of an Intangible Cultural Heritage, as reported by the Adjarian Agency for Cultural Preservation.

Since its introduction in 1946, Gandagana has long been one of Georgia’s favorite national dances.

The dance has a rather lovesick character. The male dancer tries to catch the lady’s attention through the moves that show fortitude and grace; while the lady keeps avoiding him playfully, with the pride that feels sublime.
