Deputy Interior Minister on Granting the People Injured on June 20-21 Victim Status
On Tuesday, October 29, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Nino Javakhadze made a comment to reporters concerning the issue of granting victim status to those injured during ‘Gavrilov’s Night’ in June.
“There are legal issues, appropriate procedures that need to proceed and as soon as they are completed, people, who were injured during the June 20-21 events will be granted victim’s status,” said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
Javakhadze reported the above to the press when commenting on the judgment of the Tbilisi City Court, as it refused to grant victim’s status to 16 people.
The report of the Human Rights Center was made public recently. It states that disproportionate and excessive power was used against the large-scaled protest demonstration by law enforcement bodies.
Javakhadze said she had not been familiarized with the document but the issues are being investigated by the General Prosecutor’s Office.
Earlier, the court refused to recognize 16 people, including Mako Gomuri, the young girl who lost her eye during the rally in front of Parliament, as victims in the June 20 case.
The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court judge, Nino Chakhnashvili.
