Mutso Rehabilitation Project Awarded at Cultural Heritage Summit in Paris
At the European Heritage Awards in Paris, the village-fortress Mutso from the historic Khevsureti region of Georgia received the Public Choice Award. In the context of the same ceremony, Mutso’s Rehabilitation Project received an Europa Nostra prize.
The president of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili attended the event and received the award together with the head of the Georgian Cultural Heritage Agency- Nikoloz Antidze .
At the summit, the Mutso castle rehabilitation project was named among the 27 winners, selected by the competent jury from 149 applications from 34 countries.
The project was presented by the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia in 2018.
The ceremony was hosted by the president of Europa Nostra, Placido Domingo, together with the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs- Tibor Navracsics. The ceremony was attended by more than 1,000 guests from diverse countries, including members of the Georgian delegation.
Being one of the most complex and large-scale monuments in Georgian history, Mutso's restoration and preservation project has been implemented by the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation in 2014 with the support of the Government of Georgia, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and the Cartu Foundation.
