Talakvadze on the Developments around Georgian Patriarchate

The Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia, Archil Talakvadze has compared the recent developments around the Georgian church to the events of June 20 “violent attack on the Parliament” – he called it.
Archil Talakvadze thinks it’s possible that the forces standing behind these processes are interested in causing chaos and would like to discredit the State institutes.

“There are some big similarities between the two [Gavrilov’s Night and the infamous statement of Petre Tsaava, the now-former Metropolitan of Chkondidi]. And the main similarity is that, from what I can see, they both aimed to discredit and attack the main institutes. However, no statements, no political attacks can weaken our Patriarch and church,” says the Chairperson of the Parliament.

Before Talakvadze made this claim, the Prime Minister, Giorgi Gakharia, called the recent developments around the Georgian Orthodox Church “a deliberate attack on the state and the church”, comparing it to the events of June 20.
