6 Detained at the Protest in Front of the National Library
The Police have detained 6 civilians in front of the National Library building where a demonstration is underway.
The 6 civilians were arrested for minor hooliganism and recalcitrance to the police. Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has reported that one of the detainees is a member of the ‘Labor Party’ Lasha Chkhartishvili.
Today, on November 29, the National Library of Georgia hosted an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The celebration was attended by the Minister of Justice, Tea Tsulukiani. The Police stood in cordons around the building, protecting it as the representatives from the political opposition were mobilized nearby. Some clashes occurred among them and the police had MP Giorgi Kandelaki and one of the leaders of ‘European Georgia’ political party, Gigi Ugulava walk off from the library’s territory. The police claimed the politicians were merely diverted but later the Facebook post of Ugulava read: “I was caught, they told me I was diverted, they let me go and now I am back.”
The members of the rally that was taking place in front of the Parliament building changes location when the political opposition representatives and civilian activists found out that the Minister of Justice and the Vice PM of Georgia, Tea Tsulukiani attended the event at the National Library.
