Eternal Rome: 2000 Years of Sculpture, between Ancient Art and Neoclassicism

Great Italian art is again visiting Georgia. After an unusual antique mosaic at the Capitol Museums, the capital of Georgia hosts an exhibition ‘Eternal Rome. Masterpieces of Roman sculpture by the Dino and Ernesta Santarelli Foundation.’

From December 11, 2019 until February 29, 2020, the National Gallery of Georgia will display 33 sculptural works that perfectly illustrate the stages of sculpture's artistic or stylistic development from the Roman Republic to the Neoclassicism era.

"The visitors will have the opportunity to see artworks from 1st century BC to XVIII century, get acquainted with the diversity of materials of the time and discover the eternal charm of the "World Capital "(Caput Mundi)," explains the Italian ambassador Enrico Antonio Bartoli.

The exhibition "Eternal Rome. Masterpieces of Roman Sculpture from the Dino and Ernesta Santarelli Foundation" is part of the program "Vivere ALL'italiana" and features exhibitions held over the past two years (including Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian and other prominent artists of the Renaissance era). Over 240,000 visitors have visited the exhibitions in Georgia over the last two years, which is an unprecedented success.

This event is the result of close cooperation between the institutions of the two countries. From the Italian side, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, the Italian Embassy in Tbilisi and the Dino and Ernesta Santarelli Foundation, from the Georgian side the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and the National Museum of Georgia. The exhibition is held in Georgia in cooperation with Italian company Glocal Project Consulting.
