Parliament Suspends MP Mandate to Nika Melia
The Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules of the Parliament of Georgia has unanimously approved a suspension of MP mandate to Nika Melia.
Guram Macharashvili, Chairman of the Committee, explained that the committee requested a court ruling within 15 days, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, which the Committee examined and found that the guilty verdict has come into force.
The Tbilisi City Court delivered a ruling on December 2 into the case of forcing Cartu Bank to bankruptcy and found MP Nika Melia of the United National Movement (UNM) guilty.
He was fined GEL 25,000 and was deprived of the right to hold a public office for 2 years and 3 months.
Melia, along with the former Justice Minister of Georgia Zurab Adeishvili, was charged in the mentioned case in 2013.
The two are accused of abuse of power and hiding property through fraudulent transactions in the case of Cartu Bank.
