Giga Bokeria Summoned for Questioning
MP Giga Bokeria, one of the leaders of the opposition 'European Georgia', has been summoned for questioning as a witness to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia.
The Prosecutor’s Office said he was summoned in connection with an investigation into alleged abuse of power during his tenure as the Secretary of Security Council.
The Prosecutor’s Office said Bokeria refused to come to the Prosecutor’s Office and requested to be questioned before a magistrate judge.
“The investigation has questions around the agreements signed during his tenure as the Secretary of National Security Council,” the General Prosecutor’s Office said.
One of the opposition leaders himself says his summoning to the Prosecutor’s Office for questioning is a part of political persecution of the opponents by the ruling Georgian Dream’s leader, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
"Through such methods, they are trying to subdue public protest. it is not only me, but also Gigi Ugulava, Nika Melia and others who are being charged, and many more cases have been opened,” he said.
MP Bokeria told journalists that he had no confidence in the Prosecutor’s Office investigation and would not go for questioning.
