Garibashvili: Georgia Ready to Fulfill All Requirements of Visa Liberalization

Strategic issues of Georgian-EU relations were discussed at a face-to-face meeting between Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, who is in Georgia after visiting Ukraine.

The parties discussed bilateral cooperation priorities, the implementation of the Association Agreement and the importance of the completion of the visa liberalization process.

The head of the Georgian Government stressed that the successful completion of the visa dialogue with the EU is a top priority on the agenda of cooperation. According to him, the government has tried its best to fulfil all the requirementsof the visa liberalization action plan.

Garibashvili highlighted that the EU’s active involvement is crucial for Georgia’s success as a European, democratic, stable state.

“Today the EU High Representative is visiting Georgia and that clearly confirms the EU’s strong support of our European choice and reflects the unique relationship that we already established in the form of political association and economic integration. Ms Mogherini confirmed her readiness to continue more intensive work between EU and Georgia. On November 16th, the second session of the EU-Georgia association council will be held in Brussels, which will let us summerize the process at the highest political level, progress which we have achieved in a short time. We will prepare a basis for new achievements and initiatives,” Garibashvili stated.

Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy emphasized that despite the fact the EU was facing a great deal of challenges “these problems would not hinder the importance of the EU’s relationship with Eastern European countries.”

“Georgia has fulfilled many significant obligations and should keep following the same path in order to get positive recommendations at the end of the year on terms of visa liberalization,” Mogherini stated.

Today Mogherini also took part in a high-level international conference dedicated to gender equality in Tbilisi.
