Iran Retaliates for the Assassination of their Top General
Iranian forces have launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles on two US military bases in Iraq. The Pentagon confirmed this information on Tuesday, marking it as the most noteworthy Iranian attack on the US since the tensions escalated.
US President Donald Trump insisted “All is well!” on Tuesday after Iran fired surface-to-surface missiles at two Iraqi bases lodging US troops. He promised to make a statement to the nation Wednesday morning about the increasingly hazardous situation with Iran.
The President tweeted that an assessment of casualties and damages was under way. The initial outlook, he said, was “So far, so good!"
“All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.” Tweeted President Trump.
Hours after Trump’s tweet, an Iranian regime-controlled media outlet made an unsubstantiated claim that more than 80 Americans were killed in the strike.
As CNN reports, based on the intelligence, the US is watching for potential attacks specifically against US locations in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, said on Wednesday that his military had dealt the United States a “slap in the face” when it unleashed more than 20 missiles at American forces stationed in Iraq.
In a televised address from the holy city of Qom, Khamenei said incremental military actions against the United States alone were “not sufficient.”
“What matters is that the presence of America, which is a source of corruption in this region, should come to an end,” he said to a hall filled with imams and others.
“Death to America! Death to Israel!” the onlooking crowd chanted vigorously.
