Member of UNM Beaten by Ruling Party Members

There was a physical confrontation between the members of the Tbilisi City Council from the Georgian Dream ruling party and Levan Khabeishvili of the opposition National Movement party.

The confrontation took place at the session of the Joint Commission and the Tbilisi City Assembly members: Avtandil Tsintsadze, Irakli Zarkua, Giorgi Chakvetadze and Alexander Khujadze were involved and Khabeishvili received eye injuries.

The Interior Ministry has launched an investigation into the incident under Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, involving regular beating or other violence that causes a victim physical or mental pain. 

The crime shall be punished by restriction of liberty for up to two years or with imprisonment for a term of one to three years.
