Chief of Intelligence Service of Georgia Quits
Levan Izoria, Secretary of the Security Council of Georgia and Head of the Intelligence Service, has resigned.
He denies media reports that the resignation is somehow linked to the recently released video, recorded in 2014, depicting his brother, Kita Izoria's dispute with a law enforcer. In the video, Kita verbally assaults a police officer and threatens that he will be fired from work for stopping him allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
The former Head of the Intelligence Service noted that he will continue to serve as Ambassador to Germany, adding that the above decision was taken in December.
“In December, it was decided that I will continue my work in the Federal Republic of Germany as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. I accepted this proposal with pleasure. Internal procedures began in December. The request for agrément has been sent and we expect it in mid- February. It is likely that I will arrive there at the end of February and continue my work as Ambassador," Izoria said.
He was appointed Head of the Georgian Intelligence Service in September 2019.
