Talakvadze Says Anaklia Port Must Go Ahead
Archil Talakvadze, the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, summed up his visit to Washington, saying one of the topics discussed was the American side was the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. Talakvadze reported that during his meeting with the assistant of Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State, the representatives of the strategic partner countries talked about the Anaklia project.
“We have been talking to the Department of State about the economic projects that our government has planned, including the Anaklia project,” said Talakvadze.
“Our main goal is to find a new, reliable partner investor, who will be able to implement this [Anaklia] project. We are ready to support this project in the future too,” the Parliament Chairman stated.
On January 14, the Georgian government again ruled out that it would restore the terminated contract with the Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC), naming the ADC’s “failing obligations” as the reason for this final termination. The Anaklia Deep Sea Port Development Agency is now a subordinate of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
