Kinzinger: All Parties Must Compromise to Achieve Democracy

Compromises must be made by all parties involved to achieve the democracy and freedom they seek, - Congressman Adam Kinzinger said, echoing the recent meeting with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Archil Talakvadze.

The Congressman assessed the meeting as "productive" and noted he “appreciates Talakvadze making the effort to visit and discuss the importance of the alliance.”

“After our meeting, I engaged in dialogue with various parties involved in Georgia’s political crisis. While progress was made, it became apparent to me that there would continue to be unresolved differences between the opposition and the ruling party.

"Democracy is not easy, and while protests are normal in a free country, they must remain peaceful. Citizens should live with the assurance that their justice system will be fair to all, independent, and without regard for political affiliation,” he stressed.

Kinzinger concluded that “in Georgia, compromises must be made by all parties involved to achieve the democracy and freedoms they seek.”

He noted that he “remains steadfastly committed to the strong and enduring US-Georgia relationship.”

The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, together with the Parliamentary Delegation, paid a working visit to the United States on February 5-10.

His official visit to Washington started with a meeting with congressman Adam Kinzinger, one of the co-authors of the critical letters recently sent to Georgian authorities.

During the meeting, the sides touched upon current political and economic issues.
