Head of SSSG Meets with new US Ambassador Degnan
Head of State Security Service of Georgia, Grigol Liluashvili held meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the US to Georgia Kelly C. Degnan.
As the press service of the State Security Service reports, during the meeting, the parties highlighted the importance of the strong US-Georgia partnership cooperation in the security field and discussed opportunities to further enhance ssid cooperation.
Grigol Liluashvili and Kelly C. Degnan reviewed existing challenges facing Georgia, as well as regional threats. Attention has been stressed on successful cooperation between the State Security Service of Georgia and relevant state agencies of the US, as well as the future plans. Liluashvili congratulated Amb. Degnan on her appointment and wished her success.
Ambassador of the US to Georgia expressed gratitude to the head of the State Security Service of Georgia for the security cooperation.
"We talked about plans that will surely be successful in the light of our cooperation," the Head of SSSG noted after the meeting.
"Our first meeting was very interesting. We talked about regional developments and discussed security risks. Once again, we emphasized the great partnership and cooperation that our country's special services have with the American side.
"We also stressed the assistance we receive from the American side periodically.
"We emphasized our cooperation within the Anti-Terrorist Coalition, where we are firm partners in the fight against terrorism. We talked about future action plans that will surely be successful in light of our cooperation," he added.
The newly appointed US Ambassador Kelly Degnan arrived in Georgia on January 29 to start her tenure. She has already held meetings with the Georgian Patriarch, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and Defense Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
