Georgian Basketball Icon Tornike Shengelia Rightfully Acclaimed in Spain

Shengelia has been given the award of ‘giant of the year’ (Premio Gigante del Año) by the Liga Endesa, at the ceremony of the Premios Gigantes held in Madrid Spain on February 10.

The Georgian captain of ‘Baskonia’ was named as the ‘giant of the year’ (Premio Gigante del Año) by the Liga Endesa. The league in which Shengelia competes in is the top basketball division in Spain.

The annual awards ceremony has been held for the 32-nd time. The Georgian power-forward has been rightfully acclaimed by the league, averaging 16.1 points per game, in 33 minutes of playing time. Along with his offensive accomplishments, Shengelia averages 6 rebounds, 0.3 blocks per game and 1.4 steals per game. The award was presented to Shengelia by the general director of the Liga Endesa Ignacio Jimenez.   

Alongside being named the ‘giant of the year’, Shengelia’s club Baskonia won the men’s best club nomination. Additionally, Marc Gasol was named the Spanish man of the year, as he won the NBA championship and World Cup for Spain. Kobe Bryant, the late American legend of the sport, was also honored at the ceremony.
