PM Gakharia Meets with CEO of Paris International Airports

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia met with Augustin de Romanet, the Chief Executive Officer of Paris Airports, to broaden their relations.

“We want to create a plan to attract airline companies, create new routes and make Georgia a destination country for tourists,” said Romanet.

The development of tourism for Georgia was the main discussion topic at the meeting.

“We discussed ways to develop tourism in Georgia," he said. "Georgian history and Georgian nature are impressive, we should attract tourists from all around the world.” 

The meeting also incorporated issues relating to the main operative company of Georgia’s airports, TAV Georgia. The aforementioned is the sub-company of Turkish TAV Airports Holding, which is the maintainer and operator of Tbilisi and Batumi international airports. ‘Paris Airports’ possess 46.1% of TAV Airports Holding, which is the world’s chief airport operative.

The officials from TAV Holding said that Tbilisi International Airport has the potential to improve and welcome an extra 5 million passengers per year. The Holding articulated its positive attitude towards Georgia and noted that they further wish to prolong their contract with Georgia.

Romanet distinguished that the corporation is prepared to refer quality experts to Tbilisi and Batumi international airports, to additionally improve their terminals.

The United Airports of Georgia stated in 2019, that Tbilisi International Airport welcomed 3,692,202 passengers, while Batumi International Airport hosted 624,178 commuters.
