Georgian FM Thanks Michael Pompeo for his Support

Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani thanked Michael Pompeo, US Secretary of State, for his support to Georgia regarding the 2019 cyberattack which was carried out in October, paralyzing thousands of Georgian websites.

“We highly appreciate the support we have just received from Secretary Pompeo and his strong condemnation of Russia’s attempt to infiltrate Georgia’s cyberspace - action amounting to an infringement of Georgia’s sovereignty. We will continue close cooperation with the US to minimize such risks and threats”, the Minister tweeted.

The Foreign Ministry of Georgia reported yesterday that the investigation conducted by the Georgian authorities, together with information gathered through cooperation with partners, established that a cyber-attack was planned and carried out on 28 October 2019 by the Main Division of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Soon after the MFA Georgia's report, the US Embassy in Tbilisi released the statement of Michael Pompeo, condemning Russia’s cyberattack on Georgian websites. The statement affirms the States’ support of Georgia and calls on Russia to “cease this behavior in Georgia and elsewhere.”
