Georgia Restricts Land Traffic with Iran
The Georgian government has followed up restricting the air traffic with Iran by limiting land traffic between the two countries after one case of the new coronavirus was confirmed in Georgia, the Prime Minster’s press office reports Turkey, Armenia, and Pakistan, who are all neighboring countries of Iran, sealed their borders late on Sunday.
“The meeting of the inter-agency emergency coordination group set up by the Prime Minister of Georgia ended a few minutes ago. The head of the government set up the group upon the detection of the first case of coronavirus in Georgia," reads the report.
"The Prime Minister listened to representatives of all agencies about the current and planned measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
"A decision was made at the meeting of the emergency coordination group to restrict entry from Iran by vehicles, along with air traffic. The Iranian side has already been informed through the relevant channels”.
Ekaterine Tikaradze, Georgian Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs, announced at a special briefing that only one of the 14 patients thought to have caught the virus, was actually diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. The infected is a citizen of Georgia, a 50-year-old man who traveled to Georgia through Azerbaijan from Iran yesterday.
