President Zurabishvili on Coronavirus: Georgia is Safe
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili met with the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Ekaterine Tikaradze, and the Director General of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, Amiran Gamkrelidze.
The Presidential Administration informed media that during the meeting that took place in the Orbeliani Palace, the health minister and NCDC reported on the situation in the country in relation to the novel coronavirus in detail. The President was also spoke about the measures that the government has already taken and is planning to take in the future to assure the safety of the population.
President Zurabishvili said that the current situation caused by coronavirus is serious in Georgia, as it is in the rest of the world, but it is not panic-worthy.
“Today it is important that all measures have been taken. The coordinating committee is fully functioning and our citizens are totally safe. It is crucial that everyone follows hygiene recommendations so that the virus does not spread.
“The country is protected: air traffic is restricted with the ‘high-risk’ countries, the borders that were needed to be shut are shut. We will not be totally isolated – there is no need for that. There is also no need to rush to the grocery stores. We need to act responsibly, be calm and know that there is a lot that depends on us. The state, on its end, is doing everything it can,” said the President after the meeting.
