Kinzinger Comments on Progress in the Georgian Electoral System
‘If we do not see progress on the proportional election system in Georgia, what we are planning to do will be unexpected by many’ – US Congressmen Adam Kinzinger told Voice of America.
Kinzinger advocated the Georgian government and opposition to reach an agreement at the negotiations table and to allocate the political struggle to the polling boxes.
The US Congressman implied that the Georgia’s democracy was at an ‘alarming stage’ and if the elections were not held legitimately and democracy failed, this would straightforwardly benefit Russia.
“What we are planning to do will be unexpected for many. We will decide on it here in the United States. But I keep hope that an agreement is reached,” Kinzinger said on the next step of the US Foreign Relations Committee.
Kinzinger mentioned that he intends to come to Tbilisi, but it was more essential to see what will happen in Georgia first. He fairly claims that the future of the Georgian electoral system has to be decided by the Georgian people legitimately.
