De-facto Abkhazia Declares Emergency

In order to halt the spread of coronavirus, the de-facto Abkhazian parliament has declared a state of emergency, which will last until April 20, until further notice.

The state of emergency in Abkhazia entails that social stability and the services which are necessities must be operable. The so-called government urged citizens to stay at home and refrain from travel.

Gatherings, meetings, demonstrations, and sports or cultural events are canceled. From March 28, cafes, restaurants and other places for gatherings will be closed down.

Transport will also be closed in Sokhumi and the schools are shut.

On the issue of ‘border’ crossing, the Enguri Bridge remains closed to Georgia. The crossing point ‘Psou’ with Russia is open. The declared emergency doesn’t entail closing the ‘border’ with Russia.
