Tighter Epidemic Controls Enforced in Samegrelo

Supplementary police units will be assembled in the Samegrelo region of Georgia. All of the controls that have now been enforced with the declared state of emergency will be coordinated more rigorously in the region. Georgian Prime Minister's Spokesman Irakli Chikovani spoke about the situation in western Georgia at a briefing.

The spokesman said that such tight control is principally essential due to the ‘complex epidemiological situation’ in Abkhazia.

“Extra police forces will be mobilized to tightly control all restrictions already in place within the state of emergency. It is neither a declaration of a quarantine zone nor a curfew. Rather, it is a measure taken to tighten the restrictions imposed within the framework of the state of emergency.

"The measures are aimed at making each of us citizens feel secure. Such rigorous control is especially important in the context of the complicated epidemiological situation in the Abkhazian region. As the public knows, curfew has been imposed on the so-called Gali district,” Chikovani said.
