PM Thanks EU, US Ambassadors for Assistance in Fight against COVID-19

"As regards grants, I would like to personally thank EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell, who has done an excellent job, and today we already have some figures for hot money in terms of rapid assistance for Georgia, amounting to several tens of millions of Euros. I would also like to personally thank the Ambassador of the United States, Ms. Kelly Degnan, who was also quick to act with regard to rapid assistance, particularly in the field of medicine. We have already registered this assistance, we have a promise," stated Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia.

The PM sressed that the assistance that Georgia's strategic partners will need to provide in the post-crisis period in terms of rebuilding the country and, primarily, restoring the country's economy, will be much more important.

"There is trust. We are in very close communication and we already have some results. I will not disclose specific numbers. We are progressing quite well with regard to the Ministry of Finance and this will constitute serious support for the budget, as well as in terms of the continuation of systemic infrastructure projects.

"However, we must all understand one thing: this constitutes rapid assistance during a crisis. The assistance that our strategic partners will need to provide in the post-crisis period in terms of rebuilding the country and, primarily, restoring the country's economy, will be much more important.

"The Georgian economy has been developing very well in recent years, especially during the last year and the first part of this year. Our international partners know this very well. The International Monetary Fund provided very good assessments pertaining to the end of the year, the beginning of the year. They can see that we are handling this struggle, this crisis as well and we are maintaining the potential of the economy and we hope, we are certain that the most important financial assistance for the country will be assistance in the post-crisis period when we will need to ensure the swift recovery of the economy and jobs," the Prime Minister stated.
