PM Thanks Int'l Partners for Standing by Georgia
Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia has thanked international partners for their support and solidarity to the country during this challenging time.
“Grateful to our international partners for standing with Georgia during this challenging time. We thank you for your support & share your belief that the current crisis can only be overcome with unity,” the head of government wrote on Twitter.
“The Government of Georgia and the entire political team have a common task to not only combat the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) by thereby maintaining the health and life of our citizens but to ensure the post-pandemic economic development in the country,” stated Irakli Chikovani, Press Speaker and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the PM, when commenting on the joint statements made by the International Financial Institutions (IFIs).
He noted that the Government of Georgia is actively working with its partner nations, financial institutions and development agencies to maximize the mitigation measures and to minimize the pressure and blow on the economy of the country.
“Of course, we welcome the statement made by our international partners. It is a very clear and strong message, asserting that Georgia will not be left alone in the fight against this problem and we will get support. We pledge to work with European partners not only towards implementing direct and targeted measures against the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), but to make sure that we resume the development trend of economic growth witnessed prior to the pandemic in the most efficient manner. We need to develop the national economy in the most effective and efficient manner by thereby minimizing the impact of the economic problems brought by the pandemic of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the livelihood of our citizens,” concluded the PM Press Speaker.
The delegation of the European Union to Georgia yesterday published an open letter, in which international partners and donor organizations reaffirm their support to the Georgian government and population.
Through this letter, the organization express readiness to support Georgia financially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak.
