Georgian President Signs Decree to Extend State of Emergency until May 10
On Friday evening, the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili addressed the Georgian nation via television. The President said that she has signed the decree to extend the declared state of emergency until May 10.
"I, together with the Prime Minister, signed the declaration of the state of emergency. I support all taken measures. The law, like the disease, spread today, knows no exception and privilege,” noted the President.
She highlighted the importance of enforcing the law, remembering Georgia’s many struggles for survival and noting that it is by following the law today that the state can be protected.
“The Georgian nation has shed a lot of blood for our state and its survival, it has endured many battles. Today, the struggle for the state lies in the implementation of the law and staying at home,” President Zurabishvili said.
“As the head of state, I have the highest responsibility and obligation to protect the law of the state and therefore demand it from you to obey the law,” the President remarked, adding that the law, like the coronavirus, does not recognize exceptions and privileges.
