Daily Express: Ivanishvili Donates 25.5 mln Euros to Fight COVID-19

The UK based news agency Daily Express issued an article about the donation from Georgia’s wealthiest billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili to the cause of battling the coronavirus.

“A Georgian businessman has become the single biggest private donor to any country's fight against coronavirus in the world,” reads the article by DAVID MADDOX, DAILY EXPRESS POLITICAL EDITOR. 

The Daily Express also quoted Georgi Gakharia, the Prime Minister of Georgia on the generous donations by the tycoon. “These funds will be used for the benefit of our citizens, in the fight against COVID-19. We are fighting on two fronts – healthcare and the economy. All the resources that will be mobilized will be used to achieve this goal.”

“The Cartu Fund and Bidzina Ivanishvili have been donating billions to good causes in Georgia for many years now. For me, as Prime Minister, this constitutes additional proof that we have unique insurance in this country in the form of a person, a citizen of Georgia; this person and this fund aid wherever systemic assistance is needed. Today, the Georgian public can see how this insurance works in real life. This money will save countless lives and will help all Georgians to recover from this crisis,” says the Prime Minister.

The news outlet also underlined other aid from the Ivanishvili fund, as well as his contributions to the Georgian healthcare system.  

“Mr. Ivanishvili and his family, through their family foundation, the Cartu Fund, have provided more than $3 billion in charitable contributions to various fields in Georgia,” reads the article, “Ivanishvili's charitable contributions to the field of healthcare alone amount to $500 million.”
